South by Southwest seems like eons away, but the window for voting on the Panel Picker, which helps determines which panels will be selected for next year’s conferences, closes at 11:59 p.m. Friday.
Here are four proposed panels from Austin Food Blogger Alliance members. Like their ideas? Sign into panelpicker.sxsw.com and vote for them! Comments and votes go a long way for helping get panels make their way onto the official schedule.
- Kristin Sheppard, former AFBA education chair who writes a blog at MadBetty.com, has pitched a panel with Mike Sutter of Fed Man Walking and Oh Hey What’s Up blogger Corrin Foster called “New Journalism: Black & White & Reddit All Over” about the evolution of blogging and how the relationship between “old” and “new” media has changed amid calls for stronger ethical guidelines.
- AFBA co-founder (and Miso Hungry blogger) Jennie Chen and a colleague at LiveWorld have a panel submitted called “3 Steps to Measuring Metrics and Becoming a Social Hacker,” a workshop covering “how to hack together a personalized, ‘out of the box’ measurement program and then how to refine it as your social marketing develops in the future.”
- Addie Broyles, another AFBA co-founder who writes the blog Relish Austin for the Austin American-Statesman, has pitched an interview with Phil Lempert, the nationall recognized grocery expert who goes by Supermarket Guru. The session, called “Grocery Wars: The Future of Buying Food,” will examine real (and overhyped) realities of the buying groceries in the next five to 10 years, including grocery delivery, e-coupons, smartcarts and virtual marketing.
- AFBA members Chris Sheppard (Craft Taste), Caroline Wallace (Bitch Beer) and Matt McGinnis (What Are You Drinking?) are on a proposed panel called “You Can’t Sit with Us: Craft Beer Subculture” that also includes Hops & Grain founder Josh Hare and aims to discuss the many branches of the craft beer tree, some of which intersect in ways that go against the founding ideals of fraternity, community and inclusion that the movement started with.
