While we do love to eat and talk about food, the Austin Food Blogger Alliance also exists to support our blogs. Our educational classes aim to help our members improve their blogs. Our first class this year was a highly requested hot topic – SEO. It’s an important part of a successful blog and we partnered with Amber Bracegirdle, a co-founder of Mediavine, to present this SEO class.
But first, let’s talk about this venue! The Hive hosted our class and is a great spot to co-work or host an event, especially if you have kids. This space in South Austin has room to spread out, coffee and food, plenty of natural light, and an outdoor playground for the kids. The Hive also has childcare if you need an extra set of eyes and hands as you work. Thank you for hosting us, The Hive!
Food truck RWB’s Chowbus was also onsite during our class. They’re known for their bbq pulled pork nachos, burgers, and sandwiches, to name a few.
Before the class, we submitted our SEO questions to Amber and had a discussion-filled class to answer all our questions. Here are two topics we discussed and some tips for your blog.
What are some simple ways to improve SEO?
- Make sure your post has focus. Don’t only write for SEO.
- Choose a single keyword.
- Link relevant posts from your blog within the post.
- Improve your site speed.
- Fix broken links.
Should I update or republish a post if I’m adding new information?
- Both methods have the same effect but republishing will push the post to the top.
- Republishing will have the post go through the same routine as publishing a new post, meaning if you have promotional tools connected, it will push the post out.
We left with so many tips and lots of enthusiasm to put them into action. Thank you, Amber, Mediavine, The Hive, and RWBs Chowbus for a great event!
